Austin, TX –Kingdom is excited to announce that BBC’s Annie Mac is performing a free show on October 27, 2011. The doors open at 9pm for this 21 and up event with Remmington Steele taking over the DJ booth as the opening act.
Dublin-born Annie MacManus, aka Annie Mac, left home at 17 to attend Queens University in Belfast, where she was bitten by the club bug after visiting the city’s legendary Shine club nights. Shortly thereafter Annie relocated briefly to Manhattan where she purchased her first set of decks and taught herself to mix old funk and soul records. Annie then moved to London to work simultaneously as a TV & Radio plugger, a freelance Broadcasting Assistant and a presenter for the SBN, before she made her move to BBC Radio 1.
Her debut on Radio 1 was doing an ident for Mike Davies punk show as they liked the way the word ‘ponk’ sounded in her dulcet Dublin tones. She was filling in for her original inspiration, Mary Anne Hobbs, and anonymously voicing The One World Show before eventually landing her eponymous “Annie Mac Show” in July 2004.
While continuing her work at Radio 1, Annie’s reputation as a club DJ had been growing. After a year on Radio 1 she started her ‘Annie Mac Presents’ showcases at a single room in Fabric (inaugural artists Mylo and Justice). From humble beginnings it grew into what Mixmag called ‘one of the biggest brands in clubland providing a platform for a generation of youthful, bass-driven, live-dance acts and making Annie herself one of the most in-demand club/festival DJs on the planet.’
Annie recently completed her annual DJ tour “Annie Mac Presents,” which she has hosted for 3 years running. She personally chooses the line-up of DJs for her tour, both established and up-and-coming to play in her favorite clubs across the UK. In 2009, Annie DJed at more festivals than ever, plus regular dates in world-renowned club destination Ibiza and around the world. She also released a compilation album, Annie Mac Presents in 2010.
Annie’s work on TV includes contributing regularly to BBC2’s The Culture show, reviewing new music releases. She has also done work for MTV2 presenting ‘Gonzo’. Currently Annie runs BBC’s Friday night 7-9pm slot, “Annie Mac’s Mash Up,” taking over from the legendary Pete Tong. She also continues to co-present Switch with Nick Grimshaw on Sundays from 10pm- midnight.
