The Heart of Texas Blues Challenge (HOTBC) will be held at The Brass House on Thursday July 31st, with five bands competing for two slots to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee January 15th. The competition started July 11th, with notable judges such as Susan Antone, Kathleene Cochrane. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Eventbrite.
The judges for HOTBC July 31st are Alex Reymundo, Reno Perez, Ivan Wallace, Andrea Dawson, Hosea Hargrove, Julia Cruz-Magness, and Jack Edery.
The event is sponsored by Number Juan Tequila, which in under six months won two silver and three gold medals and was named one of the top five tequilas in the world by Nexos Magazine. Comedian Alex Reymundo and Ron White started the tequila company this year, and Reymundo will be on hand to judge the competition as well as present a check to the Austin Blues Society. There will be Tequila tastings at the back of the room as the bands play.
Stiff competition has taken place every Thursday in July at The Brass House, and incredible, heartfelt performances from stellar musicians have finally yielded three bands to advance to the finals – The Palacios Brothers, the Jacqui Walker Band, and Buggaboo. Mick Moore and Mike and Eddie will be competing in the solo/duo category.
