The movie “Chef” premiered the first night of SXSW 2014 and treated the audience to slow, sensuous close ups of food being prepared by Jon Favreau as Scarlett Johansson watched appreciatively in a negligee. By the time we left the movie we were…hungry.
The movie parallels the rise of social media and the ineptitude of the use of twitter, as a war between a famous chef and a famous food critic escalates overnight into a culinary battle of epic proportions.
Chef Carl Casper, played by Favreau, suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner and he is left to figure out what’s next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife, his friend and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen — and zest for life and love.
Directed, co-produced, written by and starring Jon Favreau. The film co-stars Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sofía Vergara, Dustin Hoffman, and John Leguizamo. It is set to release in the U.S. on May 9, 2014.
