“Since we started this a few years ago we’ve seen these charities do great things for those with spinal cord injuries”, said Kyle Chandler. Co-Host, Brad Leland added, “We named our event ‘Beyond the Lights’ because we wanted it to continue and have an impact after the TV show was over. Support from the community for our efforts has been so amazing that we’re psyched about reaching our 5th year and creating another memorable event for such a worthy cause.”
Both men were inspired to help those with spinal cord injuries while shooting “Friday Night Lights” first season.Drawing on the success of its previous four years, Beyond the Lights Celebrity Golf Classic is a Florida scramble golf tourney with prizes ranging from electronics to a chance at two new cars. Past celebrity players have included FNL’s Taylor Kitsch and CSI:Miami’s Rex Linn, musician Bob Schneider, Dallas Cowboys Tony Romo, Terence Newman and Roy Williams, legendary coaches, sportscasters and local personalities. Golfers and non-golfing guests also cap off the day’s festivities at an evening Gala with a cocktails, dinner, silent and live auctions, and live entertainment.
Gridiron Heroes Spinal Cord Injury Foundation is a Central Texas-based organization that provides resources and support to injured high school athletes (predominantly football) and their families. The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis is the fundraising arm of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, the most comprehensive spinal cord research facility in the world, founded in 1985 by NFL Hall of Famer Nick Buoniconti after his son, Marc, suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury playing college football.
